Qualified Medication Aide

Course Description

This course is designed to prepare the Certified Nursing Assistant to administer medications in the Long Term Care Setting in an Indiana Facility. The student will receive sixty hours of classroom instruction in the principles of medication administration. The student will also be required to complete forty hours of clinical instruction. The student is responsible for scheduling the clinical training. Upon completion, the student will be qualified to pass medication in the Long Term Care Facility.

Participant Eligibility

The student must have a High School Diploma or GED. Documented 1000 hours of Certified Nursing Assistant work experience in a long term care setting. The student must be in good standing and current on the Indiana State Nurse Aide Registry. The Student must pass a basic math and reading examination prior to enrollment. Student must have a criminal background check.

Program Days and Times

The Qualified Medication Aide Course is scheduled on Thursday evenings from 5pm to 9pm for fifteen weeks. The clinical portion will begin after the successful completion of the classroom. The clinical portion is the responsibility of the student.

Upon completion of this course,and passing the written exam given by Ivy Tech  college, the student will be prepared to pass medication in the Long Term Care Setting. The student will be certified in the State of Indiana.
